Eliminating Equity Gaps Through Data and Institutional Change Webinar

Abstract: For the past decade, Georgia State University (GSU) has been at the leading edge of demographic shifts in the Southeast region. Using data to inform systematic institutional change, GSU has doubled its enrollment of underrepresented populations, raised graduation rates by 70 percent, and closed all achievement gaps based on race, ethnicity, and income level. Through a discussion of innovations—from AI-enhanced chatbots and predictive analytics to meta-majors and micro-grants— this keynote will share lessons learned from GSU's transformation and outline concrete and scalable steps that you can take on your campus to improve outcomes for underserved students while increasing revenues.

Abstract: Securing financial viability requires an engaged board that is monitoring the right trends and campus indicators, asking the right questions of campus leaders about the institution’s finances, and doing the scenario planning and stress testing necessary to transform a business model under stress.

The governing board’s fiduciary duty to steward the institution’s financial health requires that boards and leaders consider business model transformations, and plan for a range of scenarios like mergers, affiliations, strategic partnerships, and even—when all other options are exhausted—final transformations such as campus closures when continued mission fulfillment is impossible.

This is part one of a two-part webinar series delivered in partnership between SCUP and the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB), “Higher Education Business Models Under Stress: Planning for Successful Transitions”. This series will help build your fiduciary understanding of your institution’s business model as you prepare the campus for a range of possible business transformations, from mergers, strategic affiliations, corporate partnerships, or even the ultimate scenario of a campus closure. Abstract: After considering the pandemic’s impacts—in particular, new financial constraints and shifting space expectations—it become clear that Florida State University’s relatively recent master plan needed to be reimagined.

2019–2020 SCUP Fellow Angela Foss—Research Presentation

The research project by SCUP Fellow Angie Foss was to explore the opportunities to bring online learners virtually into Southern New Hampshire University’s new, state-of-the-art Innovation and Design Education building for their College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics. Her research included the development of two modes of delivery—remote labs and augmented reality/virtual interactions—and she also discusses the impact to the project by the immediate shift to all-remote learning due to COVID-19.
Abstract: SNHU recently built a state-of-the-art engineering facility called the Innovation and Design Education building (IDE), for their College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA).
