We'll discuss Swarthmore's experience in the actual implementation of decarbonization strategies and share the latest information on cost, carbon reduction, and phasing considerations. Come learn how to evaluate central plant strategies, geoexchange wellfields, and renewable power sources and apply these valuable strategies to create a sustainable decarbonized environment for your campus community.

Cleveland State University Campus Tour

The Washkewicz College of Engineering added over 100,000 GSF (gross square feet) to the existing 200,000 GSF building—completed in 2018—on the campus edge in downtown Cleveland.

Resource includes handout download only; unfortunately, we weren't able to successfully record video from this tour.

Abstract: The Washkewicz College of Engineering added over 100,000 GSF (gross square feet) to the existing 200,000 GSF building, completed in 2018. The building has become an icon for the college with its modern lab and teaching spaces, and serves as campus entrance marker in downtown Cleveland.

Colleagues from Demographic Perspectives and Pirie Associates, in affiliation with SCUP, discussed the challenges, priorities, solutions, and opportunities to change the way campuses operate for the future.
Abstract: COVID-19 has left universities overwhelmed and struggling to rapidly shift to new ways of operating effectively. Focusing on the interactions between people, policy, facilities, and technology is more important than ever on higher education campuses. The short-term solutions colleges are now implementing need to be embraced as lessons for the long-term. What can we learn from others working in and with higher education? What are the challenges, priorities, and solutions and, where are the opportunities to change the way campuses operate for the future?

Abstract: We will share how a collaborative partnership between four colleges, two institutions, two architects, and two construction managers delivered a premier facility for Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic, which is home to an interprofessional healthcare education experience that responds to a changing global environment. Each floor combines functional areas for teaching, research, and learning. The unique common space, both indoor and out in the adjacent gardens will foster connections with nearby academic programs and enrich the mission of The Scott Arboretum.
