Launching the Duquesne College of Osteopathic Medicine From the Ground Up

Establishing a new college within a university requires coordination with the accrediting body, other university disciplines, the city, donors, and neighboring landowners. We’ll outline and discuss how we navigated the process, challenges, and opportunities related to Duquesne University’s new College of Osteopathic Medicine, including the collaboration with the City of Pittsburgh’s Forbes Avenue Improvement Initiative.

To support and provide better access to a wider range of constituents, PGCC is reimagining their campus to elevate the community college experience while exploring the creation of two new full-service campuses. Come learn how the new PGCC campus model is meeting short and long-term needs that will serve broader populations, support evolving academic programs and workforce needs, and reduce educational inequities in the college system.

This session will discuss Princeton University’s ongoing efforts to support an ambitious capital plan, address deferred maintenance, advance climate solutions, and maximize use of campus lands. The path to a sustainable campus future will require institutions to go beyond business-as-usual planning to rethink campus infrastructure—particularly energy, stormwater, and landscapes—and activate high-performance sites and buildings.

Abstract: Shared governance is a long tradition that well serves the academy, even as opportunity cost casts a long shadow over constrained budgets supporting built infrastructure. Over the past decade, two freely available tools: the Learning Space Rating System (LSRS) and the Flexible Learning Environments eXchange (FLEXspace) have successfully combined into an integrated planning pathway to help align the complexities of faculty, designers and AV/IT professional perspectives when considering facilities investment. This planning pathway was built in collaboration with professionals over time from many campuses, including the University at Buffalo and San Diego State University where portions of the process were integrated into a holistic solution to assist with learning environment ideation and planning.
