Touring select spaces in the Kellogg Global Hub, our professional business school, and Mudd Hall, a mixed-use research and library building, this session will provide an overview of recent north campus development.
Abstract: Despite being constrained by a small, land-locked campus, Northwestern University has added nearly two million gross square feet to its north campus in the last 7 years. Major capital projects have focused on the convergence of academic, research, libraries, athletics, recreation, and support facilities in this compact area of campus. Touring select spaces in the Kellogg Global Hub, our professional business school, and Mudd Hall, a mixed-use research and library building, this session will provide an overview of recent north campus development.

We will share the planning behind the transformation of Yale Law School's Baker Hall and demonstrate how deeply engaging the new occupant's culture can powerfully guide building transformation.
Abstract: How can a university building, intended for short-term use, be re-purposed to support over-all university planning, embody the culture of a new user, and enhance that user group's pedagogy? Reusing campus structures can be highly effective, but limitations and pre-conceptions can be challenging. We will share the planning behind the transformation of Yale Law School's Baker Hall and demonstrate how deeply engaging the new occupant's culture can powerfully guide building transformation.

Abstract: This session will discuss how Michigan State University re-envisioned 140 acres through an integrated planning and exploratory design process that required continual adaptation. When building a vision for large land parcel redevelopment as a mixed-use, vibrant district, it is important to have an adaptive planning process with strong leadership and inclusive dialogue.
