This session will explore the topic of organizational change related to healthier materials and how institutions can serve as change agents.
Abstract: When it comes to toxic chemicals in the built environment, there is an urgent need for market transformation. This is a social and environmental justice issue, as our decisions affect the wellbeing of the people who build and use our buildings as well as those who live near building material production facilities. This session will explore the topic of organizational change related to healthier materials and how institutions can serve as change agents. It can often result in a more expensive process that misses the mark on achieving realized savings, leading universities to shift away from LEED. This session will focus on the next step in the evolution of green building and provide a comprehensive sustainability framework for responsible development with a holistic view of the campus and community wellbeing. In this session, we'll share our results and challenges with the Integrative Design Process (IDP) at Princeton, and show how you can use an IDP to realize better value and outcomes for your campus project.
Abstract: The Integrative Design Process (IDP) is a powerful collaborative framework that aligns with an institution's culture to cost-effectively achieve any project's desired outcomes. After adopting IDP incrementally since 2003, Princeton University has created a full program, including a roadmap and in-depth training. A well-designed IDP supports participation and buy-in from users and effective collaboration in project teams-that means fewer changes during the construction documents phase and construction, smoother turnover, and better performance. In this session, we'll share our results and challenges and show how you can use an IDP to realize better value and outcomes for your campus project.

Recently, Morgan State University began constructing its new Thurgood Marshall residence hall and we'll explore how we used design and technology to support the building's hybrid environment.
Abstract: Student housing is an important factor in achieving institutional goals and outcomes, but residential campuses are grappling with how best to manage the current pandemic while also planning for the future. This session will address how hybrid physical and virtual learning environments can address both of these concerns. Recently, Morgan State University began constructing its new Thurgood Marshall residence hall and we'll explore how we used design and technology to support the building's hybrid environment. Abstract: While students have greatly enjoyed the inclusive atmosphere, comradery, and campus activities at Morgan State University (MSU), they were less enthusiastic about the outdated campus housing and dining facilities. There was no question that MSU needed a new facility, so they created a plan to guide the university through the complex decision-making of where to build it, how to pay for it, and how to design it to meet student satisfaction and serve as a tool for recruitment and retention. Join us to learn about the planning process behind MSU’s 21st-century 700-bed housing facility, including a state-of-the-art dining hall.
