Collection: Employing Accreditation to Strengthen Planning and Drive Improvement

Accreditation holds far more potential for an organization's strategic and academic planning than most colleges and universities realize. This collection of SCUP resources includes an introduction to accreditation along with examples of how institutions intentionally employ accreditation at multiple levels to strengthen planning and drive improvement.
Abstract: Too often, colleges and universities treat accreditation as a series of compliance exercises: Do we have the right data? Have we submitted the correct documents? Are we ready for a site visit? But accreditation policies and procedures can do more for your institution . . . if they are aligned with integrated planning efforts.

Abstract: In this conversation, William Knight, Assistant Provost for Institutional Research and Effectiveness, Miami University, addresses how his team has developed data dashboards for administration and faculty to provide insight into Learning Management System (LMS) use, enrollment projections, and overall student access and success. He then discusses trends he’s noticed at HLC and thoughts on how campuses can begin discussions around staff capacity, curriculum success, and sunsetting programs, ultimately strengthening their sustainability and easing accreditation work.

Dr. Bill Knight has two roles on campus—working on IR and IE, and serving as the accreditation liaison. He is also a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

This session looks at the collaboration between enrollment management and departmental faculty—specifically the planning, monitoring, and communication of student progress in an online doctoral program. You will learn techniques to improve communication between departments that historically work independent of each other, along with opportunities for future interdepartmental partnerships that improve student success.

Breaking Down Silos, Building Up Enrollment

We will present the strategic and collaborative methods to our success and share how Stockton’s Chief Planning Office played an important role in breaking down common silos that impeded efforts to collaborate, innovate, and succeed.
Abstract: Stockton University grew its 2017 freshman class by 32 percent (375 students) by implementing a systems approach to enrollment management. We will present the strategic and collaborative methods to our success and share how Stockton’s Chief Planning Office played an important role in breaking down common silos that impeded efforts to collaborate, innovate, and succeed. We will discuss the statistical tools, operational improvements, and leadership techniques put in place to support Stockton’s growth, including new weekly reports and cross-divisional planning efforts.
