Abstract: Shared governance is a long tradition that well serves the academy, even as opportunity cost casts a long shadow over constrained budgets supporting built infrastructure. Over the past decade, two freely available tools: the Learning Space Rating System (LSRS) and the Flexible Learning Environments eXchange (FLEXspace) have successfully combined into an integrated planning pathway to help align the complexities of faculty, designers and AV/IT professional perspectives when considering facilities investment. This planning pathway was built in collaboration with professionals over time from many campuses, including the University at Buffalo and San Diego State University where portions of the process were integrated into a holistic solution to assist with learning environment ideation and planning.

Abstract: Decarbonization sits at the nexus of integrated planning. Gain buy-in by engaging students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the broader community across all campus facets to create a culture of decarbonization that yields tangible outcomes. Decarbonization requires thinking big and working together. Universities are uniquely positioned to model innovative planning approaches to decarbonization, revealing what’s possible at different scales, from individuals to broader organizations. Attendees will gain tools for implementing decarbonization plans aligned with institutional missions. Develop strategies to build consensus, align on priorities, think big, and create a culture of decarbonization defined by new models of practice.

Abstract: This webinar showcases a collection of revolutionary tools being used in transformation campaigns. These tools have dramatically improved the experience and effectiveness of teams and coalitions engaged in strategy crafting and orchestration. The session will feature Zoom/Miro/new assessment tools combined with design-thinking-based processes to mainstream virtual/hybrid planning experiences. These have facilitated high-quality, enthusiastic engagement of teams and coalitions on an ongoing basis throughout strategy crafting and orchestration.

Abstract: In difficult times, planning and the successful implementation of that planning require the buy-in and support of a whole range of stakeholders–but particularly the faculty, since they carry out the institution’s teaching and research missions.

Faculty can make or break successful planning.

An institution must be very circumspect in their choice of representative faculty for planning groups, how they are engaged in the planning process, and how they interact with other campus constituencies for maximum buy-in. This endeavor is particularly difficult when the new planning process follows previous attempts that have failed because of faculty resistance or lack of meaningful involvement. This session details successful planning initiatives at two regional universities, one in the Midwest and one in the southern Northeast, where earlier planning efforts failed because of “the faculty factor.”

Join us to explore the successes and failures involved in these two planning initiatives that required broad-based faculty support in order to reverse issues with programmatic quality, student success, and institutional accreditation.
