(Ann Arbor – MI) The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) partnered with the USAID-funded Higher Education System Strengthening Activity (HESSA) in Pakistan to deliver an impactful and comprehensive integrated planning workshop series. Through the SCUP Planning Institute, over 100 planning team members from 16 major higher education institutions in Pakistan were equipped with integrated planning tools to strategically strengthen their campuses.
Integrated planning is a sustainable approach to planning that builds relationships, aligns the organization, and emphasizes preparedness for change. The model emphasizes the importance of engaging campus stakeholders and fostering collaboration to create a sustainable roadmap for institutional success. The SCUP Planning Institute’s progressive learning approach helped participants develop critical leadership skills, such as analyzing trends, asking critical questions, and building actionable plans. Through hands-on activities and collaborative discussions, participants applied an integrated planning framework to their own institutions’ contexts and were left equipped with a solid foundation for both short- and long-term planning.
The intensive SCUP Planning Institute covered over 35 hours of material across two cohorts. Leading the experience were experienced facilitators, Randy Simon, Director of Capital Planning and Space Management at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Ray White, retired Director of System Strategic Planning at Washington State University. Supported by Josh Humbel, Associate Director of Learning Programs at SCUP, Simon and White leveraged their extensive planning expertise and insights for the program, enriching the training experience for participants in Pakistan.
“This has been a highlight and a capstone to my 40-year career. It is clear the participating institutions are committed to improving student outcomes through integrated strategic planning.” – Ray White
“This has been a tremendous opportunity to globally apply integrated planning principles. I am grateful for the partnership with HESSA and the hard work put forth by all associated Pakistani institutions.” – Randy M. Simon
At SCUP, we believe this framework spans diverse institution sizes and types. By equipping participants with the SCUP Integrated Planning Model, the SCUP and HESSA partnership creates an opportunity for substantial improvements in integrated planning efforts across Pakistan’s higher education institutions.
