Niraj Dangoria Accepts Award at the July SCUP Annual Conference in Nashville

(Ann Arbor, MI) The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) has presented its Distinguished Service Award to Niraj Dangoria, theassociate deanforFacilities Planning and Managementat theStanford University School of Medicine. The SCUP Distinguished Service Award recognizes exceptional contributions to the activities and success of the society.

“From his first leadership position on the professional development committee, to his work on the Pacific regional council, five annual conference committees, and the board of directors, Niraj consistently looked at ways to rethink and build opportunities for the organization,” said Robert Nalls, 2017–18 Chair of SCUP’s Board of Directors, and president of Nalls Architecture, Inc.

Niraj was president of the SCUP board from 2012 to 2013 during a critical implementation period for the society’s new strategic governance model. He facilitated a smooth transition with his open dialogue and transparency with members. “This was a particularly significant time as the association realigned and refreshed their governance structure that impacted regions and standing committees,” Robert added. The following year, he led the governance and leadership committee and the presidential task force, resulting in the hiring of SCUP’s first staff president.

Looking back on his 25 years as a member Niraj said, “I’ve always felt that SCUP and my job have had a yin yang experience, where the work that I did at SCUP benefited my leadership development at my job. And my job gave me the presence and the fortitude to be an agent of change at SCUP. So they both went together hand in hand. I was better and stronger for one influencing the other.”

“This is one of SCUP’s highest honors,” said Michael D. Moss, president of the Society for College and University Planning. “By bestowing this award, our SCUP Board of Directors recognizes Niraj’s 25 years of impactful leadership and contributions.”

“It is very satisfying personally and professionally that the membership and the organization feel that I have added value to the society,” Niraj added.
