William Haas
Senior Director of Campus Planning
New York University
As the Senior Director of Campus Planning at New York University, Will Haas leads the Office of Strategic Assessment Planning and Design and is responsible for developing strategies for accommodating NYU’s short and long term growth needs to support the academic mission of the University. The office is responsible for identifying and planning $200M worth of construction projects annually. He was instrumental in developing NYU’s first long range space plan and gaining City approvals to allow for nearly 2 million square feet of new development at the Washington Square campus.
Mr. Haas also served as a Senior Policy Advisor for the New York City Mayor’s Office Special Initiative for Rebuilding and Resiliency in order to develop policies and strategies for Southern Manhattan in response to Hurricane Sandy and future climate change risks.
Prior to joining NYU, Mr. Haas served in the Manhattan Office of the New York City Department of City Planning as the Project Director of Hudson Yards, New York City’s largest land use and transportation proposal in the past several decades. He managed the project from its inception and guided the project through the City’s public review process and adoption by the City Council. The project combined land use, planning, and zoning components to expand subway service, as well as create 25 million square feet of new commercial space, 13,500 residential units and over 20 acres of open space.
Mr. Haas holds a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of California at Berkeley.
