Renata Engel

Vice Provost for Online Education

Renata S. Engel is Vice Provost for Online Education at the Pennsylvania State University. A member of the Penn State faculty since 1990, she is Professor of Engineering Design and Engineering Science and Mechanics and served as the Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the College of Engineering from 2006-2014 and the Executive Director of the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence from 2000-2006.

In her current role as Vice Provost, Engel provides leadership to Penn State’s World Campus, including academic and student support to the 175+ online degree programs, minors and certificates, and works across all colleges and campuses to facilitate coordination of offerings. Engel also contributes leadership for university-wide toward the goal of transforming how we structure learning and support students and efforts focused on access and affordability through increasing retention and graduation and decreasing the total cost of a degree.

Engel holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering science from Penn State and a Ph.D. in engineering mechanics from the University of South Florida and is a fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education. Engel served as the president of the American Society for Engineering Education from 2010 to 2011 and also served as a member of its board of directors.
