Kathy Spiegelman

Northeastern University

Kathy Spiegelman, Vice President and Chief of Planning, Real Estate and Facilities at Northeastern University is a proven leader in real estate, planning, and community affairs. While the University continues a trajectory of unprecedented growth of its experiential education model, Kathy leads a diverse and talented team responsible for shaping and caring for Northeastern University’s physical environment in support of learning and discovery. Kathy is responsible for the development, operations, and stewardship of the 8 million SQF campus in Boston, the footprint in Oakland, California and the 11 other campus sites creating a Northeastern global network.

She is currently leading the University’s master planning process for its Boston Campus and has led multiple master planning processes for Harvard’s Allston land holding.  She has a unique understanding of how institutional change can foster benefits for the campus and surrounding community. Kathy’s leadership has ensured that Northeastern is an exemplar among our peer institutions in climate justice, resiliency, and sustainability planning.

Kathy set the standard for institutional planning during her tenure at Harvard University, where she led several key development projects involving coordination with design and planning con­sultants, representatives of Harvard faculties, and members of the surrounding communities to launch a 20-year building program and infrastructure plan.

Kathy taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and sits on several non-profit boards and committees. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Brown University and holds a Master of Science degree in Historic Preservation from the Columbia University School of Architecture and Planning.
