Jessica Hurley Smith

Jessica Hurley Smith, AIA
Jessica brings twenty years of planning, design and construction management experience, fourteen of which serving exclusively in higher education. In May 2020, she joined Virginia Commonwealth University as Director of Planning and Design and University Architect. Her team includes a diverse group of talented planners, landscape architects, architects, interior designers and project managers. VCU completed its master planning study, One VCU, in 2019 and is investing in first phases of its implementation.
Prior to VCU, Jessica served as the Director of Capital and Facilities Planning at UVA’s School of Medicine, where she led a highly motivated team of leaders, faculty and staff to develop a health system specific, integrated space plan to guide capital investments for the next twenty years. Previously, she served UVA in variety of roles including senior space manager, senior review architect, and construction administration manager.
