Emily Deeker is the Director of Campus Planning and Environment for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance. In this position she serves as the Campus Planner as well as the Campus Landscape Architect with responsibilities for the implementation and updating of UNL’s Physical Campus Master Plan and ensuring alignment of the campus physical environment with the University’s strategic plan. As the Campus Planner, Emily assists in guiding campus projects and initiatives through campus planning processes and committees as well as directly advising the Chancellor and Executive Leadership Team regarding physical campus plan development, implementation, and strategic alignment. Her role also requires interaction and collaboration across the university and other local governmental entities including City of Lincoln, Downtown Lincoln Association, Natural Resources District, and others. Additionally, Emily oversees UNL’s Sustainability Office.
Emily serves on two City of Lincoln community boards, the Urban Design Committee and the StarTran Advisory Board; and recently completed a tenure on the Community Forestry Board. She has also previously served as an adjunct professor for the Department of Landscape Architecture in the College of Architecture.
Emily has over 21 years of practice experience, is a licensed Landscape Architect in the state of Nebraska, holds a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Kansas State University and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to starting at UNL in 2003, Emily held design positions at nationally recognized landscape architecture firms in Kansas City, MO and Columbia, MD.
