Bernard J. Costello, M.D., D.M.D., is the senior vice president for Health Affairs and Distinguished Professor at Wayne State University, where he leads the university’s health sciences enterprise, including the School of Medicine, College of Nursing, Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the emerging School of Public Health. A nationally recognized leader in craniofacial surgery and interdisciplinary education, Dr. Costello brings over two decades of experience in higher education and clinical care. His research in regenerative medicine has led to groundbreaking innovations and the development of new technologies. A strong advocate for non-opioid pain management, he has helped shape national conversations on responsible prescribing. Dr. Costello earned his M.D. and D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and completed advanced training in pediatric craniofacial surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center. He has held leadership roles in several professional associations and is a sought-after speaker internationally on craniofacial surgery and healthcare.
