As Campus Architect for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Mr. Powers is overseeing $2 billion of new construction, renovation and site plan improvements involving 190 acres of the campus. He has a unique collaborative experience, from both the private and public sector. Previously, he was Principal and Director of Architecture at a design firm that grew from 7 to 24 employees. The practice spanned 18 states; specializing in higher education, civic projects and master planning. The firm created iconic civic spaces, winning over 40 awards at the local, state and national levels. He has served on the Board of Directors for AIA East Tennessee numerous times and headed the Design Awards for the chapter. He has presented at over a dozen regional, national and international conferences.
