Joanne Proft

Co-Director, Planning + Design
The University of British Columbia

Joanne Proft is Co-Director of Planning & Design at the University of British Columbia, where she oversees plans and policies that shape the university’s built environment and guide sustainable campus growth, including recent updates to long-term physical plans for both campuses.

Before joining UBC in 2014, Joanne led the planning and design of complex infrastructure and public realm projects across the public and private sectors. She was a Project Manager with Metro Vancouver’s regional transportation authority, advancing strategies for sustainable mobility across the region, and later served as Planning Manager for the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, overseeing the planning program for a new Capital District for the United Arab Emirates. Earlier in her career, she worked with design firms in Vancouver and New York.

Joanne holds graduate degrees in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture from UBC and a Bachelor of Music from McGill University.
