Denver, ColoradoAs Education Facility Project Principal of Strategy+ at AECOM and a higher education space planner for more than two decades as well as previously a co-owner of Paulien & Associates, Kate focuses on space planning and analytics for higher education clients as well as other market areas. She has worked with over 250 campuses throughout the United States and internationally as well as civic clients such as the Department of Health Services at LA General.
Her work includes space planning for campuses including high-level analytics for campus master plans, college and departmental space needs analyses, detailed program plans, utilization studies, classroom demand models, migration and reallocation strategies, space planning model development and interactive dashboards, benchmarking, comparative analyses, educational adequacy assessments, facilities inventory validations, and move management strategies.
She helps stimulate thinking by being an impartial expert, being a qualified listener, and encouraging everyone to be a part of the process. Kate incorporates a campus’s data within robust analytical tools that are blended with my knowledge of space planning guidelines, utilization standards, and focused metrics for forward-thinking learning environments. Her role is to understand what students and faculty do and then plan innovative spaces to support these activities.
