Ben Carton
Associate Professor of African History
George Mason University
Benedict Carton teaches African history at George Mason University. He is the author of Blood from Your Children: The Colonial Origins of Generational Conflict in South Africa and other works exploring social and cultural change in diasporic Black communities. With colleagues in the Center for Mason Legacies, Carton helped create the Enslaved People of George Mason Memorial and launch research examining how transnational segregation forged university life in societies shaped by slavery, colonialism, and capitalism in the (global) North and South. He has had several stints as a Fulbright scholar in KwaZulu-Natal.
