Perspectives
The project includes the extensive renovation of the original library and the insertion of 30,000 sq ft of new, flexible university classroom program and building infrastructure. The original 1966 design allowed for access and approach from the adjacent malls. Later additions removed ground-level entry to the tower, disconnecting it from the adjacent buildings and campus malls. The new exterior design infills a majority of the surrounding moat on the lower level, creating a ground-level plaza to reconnect the tower to campus. Main project drivers include enhancing campus connectivity by engaging the newly activated ground floor with surrounding campus malls; providing flexible spaces for learning, studying, collaborating, and making; and employing a resource-efficient approach to all aspects of design.
