Cost and Productivity Analysis for Higher Education: A Look at the Boston College Approach

This report examines the Boston College approach to cost and productivity analysis. First, an overview of the issues considered prior to establishing the methodology for the studies will be presented. Then, the next two sections of the report will provide a discussion of how to compile resource utilization analyses for sample academic and administrative departments. The report will close with a review of the benefits to be derived from conducting cost and productivity analysis and some suggested "next steps" for simplifying the data collection task and for enhancing the output from the studies.
