Job Duties

The Theatre Technical Supervisor position is directly accountable to the Director of The Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center for the following duties and responsibilities:

The individual filling this position is expected to play a positive role in helping the College change as necessary to effectively carry out its mission.

  • Assist Director of Mattie Kelly Arts Center in preparing season to include production, budgets and cost analysis to satisfy requirements of technical riders and the complete schedule.
  • Supervise stage set-up for all events at the Mattie Kelly Arts center. This includes, but is not limited to supervision of the set-up of all equipment, lighting, sound, video where required, other special performance requirements for all rehearsals and concerts and day-to-day operations.
  • Determine the appropriate number of stagehands to execute the needs of all riders, load-in, rehearsals and concert/performance requirements through the payroll company.
  • Coordinate Load-in, rehearsal, load-out and any special needs in all spaces.
  • Supervise or design, hang, focus, program operate and strike all lighting requirements, including all rigging and lighting board operations, as needed.
  • Supervise the implementation and operation of all sound requirements, including all rigging, microphone placement, monitor systems, and board operations, as needed.
  • Coordinate with the House Manager to maintain the starting time and intermission interval of each event.
  • Coordinate with Costumes to determine production needs and feasibility
  • Provide performers with appropriate cues as required.
  • Negotiate directly with the product vendors for purchase/rental of production/stage equipment.
  • Supervise maintenance of all Mattie Kelly Arts Center stage equipment, including but not limited to lighting, sound systems, video system, pit mechanisms, and fly system.
  • Update and revise inventory of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center owned production stage equipment.
  • Participate fully and directly in all duties and responsibilities of the production crew.
  • Implement safety rules in backstage area including fire and emergency exit plan for artist and production crew, clear pathways, etc.
  • Responsible for teaching Stagecraft, AutoCad, Lighting Design and Entertainment Crafts alternating semesters.
  • Responsible for the construction and budgetary planning of 2 to 3 shows each semester, Summer ensemble workshop and summer musical. Duties may include design of lighting.
  • Responsible for all maintenance of theatre equipment.
  • Responsible for organization and maintenance of the theatre construction shop and ensure a clean and safe workplace.
  • As a part of the college’s risk management tool annual mandatory compliance training is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts with four (4) to six (6) years professional experience required. Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Theatre with three (3) years professional experience preferred.
  • Experience and training MUST be in Technical Theatre, Shop Management, Lighting Scene Design, and Sound Design.
  • Ability to take initiative, act independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Salary

$44,047 - $56,401
