The individual filling this position is expected to play a positive leadership role in helping the College effectively manage change
The Director of the Theatre Program is expected to build a robust theater program that serves to recruit, enroll, and retain students, as well as direct student productions to engage the community. The Director of the Theater Program is directly accountable to the Chair of the Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Department for the following duties and responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Engage with local middle and high schools to actively recruit students to the theatre program and develop collaborative partnerships.
- Serve as a liaison with established local community and professional theaters to increase community involvement on campus and develop collaborative partnerships.
- Direct at least two student theatre productions within an academic school year.
- Assume leadership in organizing, administering, reviewing, developing, and assuring program effectiveness.
- Evaluate Theatre Program goals, objectives and educational outcomes for purposes of program operation and evaluation
- Assume the leadership role in the continued development and evaluation of the program.
- Fulfill teaching responsibilities in Theatre instructor role (minimum of six credit hours per semester).
- Provide excellence in instruction within the Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Department for undergraduate students in various theatre-related courses, including but not limited to Acting I and II, Theatre Appreciation, and/or Script Analysis.
- Collaborate with Collegiate High School on creating theatre outreach programs.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Director and staff for student productions and other outreach events and partnerships.
- Coordinate with Strategic Communications on marketing the program for recruitment and retention purposes.
- Assist in development and evaluation of curriculum as needed.
- Collaborate with administration, faculty, and staff to ensure student success.
- Provide student guidance and support.
- Participate in college committees and work groups as assigned.
- Engage in institutional service, professional development, and other duties as assigned.
- Complete annual mandatory compliance training.
- Assignments may be made at any location within the service territory and may require physical presence.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of master’s degree in Theatre or a master’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Theatre.
- Seven (7) years of documented relevant work experience.
- One (1) year post-secondary teaching experience or equivalent.
- Proficiency in curriculum design, program administration, evaluation, and instruction.
- Demonstrated evidence of professional development growth through participation in continuing education and other related activities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in developing Educational Theatre Programs preferred.
- Experience directing and producing theatre productions with basic technical theatre experience preferred.
