Job Description:

Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) is a non-profit program of Northwest Florida State College. CBA’s mission is to sustain swimmable, fishable waterways through education, restoration, monitoring, and research. CBA oversees the College’s Mattie Kelly Environmental Initiative (MKEI), dedicated to engaging the community in meaningful citizen science experiences.

The individual assigned to this position assumes duties and responsibilities which require electronic accessibility for college business during non-college operating hours and/or when off campus during regular duty hours.

The individual filling this position is expected to play a positive role in helping the College change as necessary to effectively carryout its mission. The Education and Outreach Specialist is directly accountable to the program for the following duties and responsibilities.

  • Provide on-site, environmental education activities for local schoolchildren.
  • Lead assistant educators.
  • Implement K-12 curriculum development under direction of CBA Education Program Manager.
  • Support annual Mattie Kelly Environmental Initiative (MKEI) Family Estuary Festival.
  • Support annual MKEI symposium.
  • Support MKEI photo contest and calendar.
  • Attend local events to recruit volunteers.
  • Maintain volunteer database and send out calls for volunteers.
  • Assist donor and volunteer retention mail outs.
  • Develop outreach resources such as flyers, infographics, and presentations.
  • Communicate and represent program objectives to public audiences.
  • Participate in occasional weekend, early morning, or evening programs and events.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with community groups and ancillary agencies.
  • Complete Annual Mandatory Compliance Training.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Assist other CBA program areas as needed

Required Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A.A. or A.S. degree required.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of documented relevant work experience.
  • Experience coordinating programmatic and community events.
  • Interest in non-traditional education.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer application.
  • Knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other graphics applications.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple duties and projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication outlets.
  • Team-focused.
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather?heat, cold, rain, wind.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. repeatedly.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS with emphasis in natural science, communications, public relations, education, or related field
