Take A Tour With Us…

The regional conference will have two tours to choose from on Monday April 5th – watch the website for conference updates:

San Diego State University / University of San Diego
Protecting Campus Historic Buildings and Grounds in Tough Economic Times

This guided tour will review key elements of the San Diego State University and University of San Diego campuses. Tour participants will discuss how campuses can continue to emphasize the importance of a campus’ historic architecture, while examining whether strategies can be developed to weigh how future operational dollars might be allocated in order to maintain the long-term integrity of a campus’ buildings and grounds in these difficult economic times.

Salk Institute/University of California at San Diego
Balancing Campus Buildings, Open Space, and Sustainability

While there has been a growing acknowledgement in sustainable design through the Green Building Council's (GBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, environmentally sensitive design is not a new concept. For decades architects and planners have worked in conjunction to preserve the natural setting and to develop building designs that are responsive to the context in which they are placed. This guided tour will include visits to the Salk Institute and the University of California, San Diego. Key examples will be identified to demonstrate how buildings are balanced by open space to compose the campus urban fabric.

Watch for more information on these wonderful events!

Learn…

This year, we had an outstanding group of submissions to choose from, in record numbers. Several tracks have emerged to form the concurrent sessions offered this year. They draw from experience, present case studies, and offer insight with vision and practical application.

Planning and operating within limited economical means is not new to higher education. The current climate of uncertainty heightens the importance of planning and tests our ability to sharpen our skills at doing so. This year’s presenters will discuss successes in academic fiscal planning, creative project financing, and alternate financial resources. They’ll demonstrate the benefits of forging community partnerships to achieve strategic initiatives, economic development and university growth. Sustainable practices and management strategies are linked to programming and planning; integrated and alternate project delivery strategies are investigated, having been tested and delivering results.

This year’s program is one of the most diverse and comprehensive offered in recent years, with significant relevance to the challenges we face. A taste of just a few includes:

  • Certainty In An Uncertain Time: Integrated Project Delivery at Loyola Marymount University
  • Creative Project Funding When Your State is Strapped for Cash
  • Greening Up the Bottom Line: Strategies to Improve Facility Performance
  • Integrated Planning Using a Project Specific Pattern Language Approach
  • Meeting campus strategic initiatives through partnerships and leveraging resources.

Join us in this learning experience. Take the time to assess and to share your successes in the sea air of La Jolla, CA.

Our Members

Is your membership information current?

In October, we were proud to announce the launch of an enhanced, online membership directory, which allows for additional search capabilities. Two new features have now been added: (1) when you make edits to your contact and demographic information, the changes will be reflected immediately, and (2) you can download a PDF of the entire online directory, as needed.

And to thank you for checking and updating your information, your name, along with the name of everyone who is a member on January 31, 2010, will be placed in a drawing to win one of five, free full-conference registrations to SCUP-45. One winner from each region will be chosen at random by each regional representative. Winners will be notified and their names will appear on the SCUP-45 homepage by February 12, 2010.

Planning Institute On Campus Offerings

Tough economic times require a time-tested approach to strategic planning. The most effective planning comes from an integrated approach to how it is structured, assessed, and implemented. SCUP now offers members the opportunity to bring the Planning Institute to your campus with your team!

Bring the institute to your campus and you'll ...

  • Be positioned for accreditation
  • Receive a program focused on your institution
  • Create an integrated planning process that works for your campus
  • Save money on travel and registration
