  • Vision:
SCUP will be the premier organization for the advancement of integrated planning in higher education.
  • Mission:
The Society for College and University Planning is a community that provides its members with the knowledge and resources to establish and achieve institutional planning goals within the context of best practices and emerging trends.

SCUP: Integrated Planning for Higher Education

Definition of integrated-strategic planning:
Integrated-strategic planning engages all sectors of the academy—academic affairs, student affairs, business and finance, IT, communications, and development. It involves all stakeholders—faculty, students, staff, alumni, and external partners.

The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), which was established in 1965, is a community of senior, higher education leaders who are responsible for, or are involved in, the integration of planning on their campuses and for the professionals who support them.

Members look to SCUP to find ways to successfully integrate the institution's mission into their academic plan, and then seek to integrate all other kinds of planning on campus in support of the academic plan.

SCUP Can Help You (and Your Staff Members) Plan Better!

SCUP’s unique strength is that it facilitates opportunities for its members to share best practices about integrated planning for higher education.  Here's how:

  • SCUP Planning Institute: Learn how to integrate planning by attending all three steps. Ideal for those new to planning, or professionals taking on additional planning responsibilities in a new area, or experienced professionals who want to demonstrate their expertise with a certificate of completion. Attend an offering at a conference or save travel costs by having any one, or all three, of the steps taught on your campus.
  • Trends: Environmental scanning on higher education trends is available in a bi-annual, member-only report.
  • Best Practices: Learn about successful (and not so successful) planning projects from colleagues around the world at regional events, annual conferences, workshops, and no-travel webcasts and virtual conversations.
  • Opportunities to Interact: Virtually or face-to-face, discuss planning cross-functionally in a collegial atmosphere with individuals from a wide variety of campuses and firms.

SCUP supports integrated planning that is holistic, systemic, and crosses functional and operational boundaries.

SCUP believes that effective integrated planning is rewarding, e.g., diverse issues are addressed and implications are understood. These are the attributes of successful, integrated planning.
