The North Central Regional Council invites you to attend the 2004 conference to be convened at the Millennium Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota from October 10-12, 2004. The conference committee has been busy assembling an impressive list of sessions and presenters that cover a broad range of topics and issues facing higher education today. We are positive you will find something of interest and value that will benefit you and your institution.

This year's theme "A Kaleidoscope of Challenges: The Changing Landscape of Higher Education" addresses the issue of change. Change is a common occurrence at every institution, and we are continuously challenged to develop new methods and ideas to support these initiatives. The metaphor of the kaleidoscope for our theme signals that attention must be given to each dimension of planning, but not in isolation. Those involved with planning recognize how each is a part of the greater whole.

This year's local host committee has put together an exciting selection of tours and social events that complete the theme and make this conference memorable. Our location in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul offers the sophistication and diversity of a major urban destination, combined with a natural and welcoming environment of rivers, lakes and trees. There are over 40 higher education institutions in the area, and the University of Minnesota is one of the most comprehensive public universities in the United States and ranks among the most prestigious. It is both the state's land-grant university, with a strong tradition of education and public service, and the state's primary research university, with faculty of national and international reputation.

We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to visit a major metropolitan city and to network with your friends and meet new colleagues. We look forward to greeting you personally at the conference and to sharing new ideas and experiences with you.
