Abstract: How can we reimagine the traditional campus-based learning model to make higher education more affordable, flexible, and accessible? For many higher education institutions, the pandemic has exacerbated the challenges they were already facing: the competition for students in a landscape of changing demographics, a drastically altered world of work, and the seemingly uncontrollable escalation of costs. Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) is redefining the future of higher education by developing new programs and degree pathways, scaling online and virtual learning platforms, reducing tuition to increase accessibility, and investing in their physical campus.

Seizing this Moment of Opportunity

In this session, we’ll explore how to step back from moments of crisis and see them in perspective, as moments also brimming with opportunity to regroup, rethink our strategies and refocus our resources to lead.
Abstract: In turbulent times, visionary leaders and their committed crews recognize the winds of change, reset their sails and change course so they emerge in a better position than before. The global pandemic of 2020-21 has been a once-in-a-century disruption for education at all levels, which has magnified pre-existing inequities and vulnerabilities, and compressed a decade’s worth of social and technological change into a year. Even once this threat has past, many of our campuses will see recurrent disruptions from extreme weather events, other zoonotic viruses, geopolitical conflict, wildfires or flooding. We know now that business and academic continuity will demand flexible, lower density approaches and an integrated, omnichannel approach to student services, scholarship and learning. Myhal Centre for Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship

This tour will lead attendees through the eight-story building that features a 500-seat lecture theatre, state-of-the-art collaborative classrooms, workshops, lab spaces, and fabrication facilities as well as several large multidisciplinary research centers and institutes.
Abstract: The Myhal Centre for Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship, located in the heart of University of Toronto’s St. George campus, heralds a new era in engineering education with dynamic, flexible environments that bring students, faculty, researchers, alumni, and industry partners together to foster collaboration, encourage active learning, and accelerate innovation. This tour will lead attendees through the eight-story building that features a 500-seat lecture theatre, state-of-the-art collaborative classrooms, workshops, lab spaces, and fabrication facilities as well as several large multidisciplinary research centers and institutes.

Occupying the last unbuilt site on the campus’s main thoroughfare, we will discuss how the Myhal Centre has been designed to have a positive, transformative impact on both the streetscape and the campus at large.
