Abstract: Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) has transformed its college model to address crucial issues such as demographic changes, meeting the needs of non-traditional students, and empowering underserved populations. To support and provide better access to a wider range of constituents, PGCC is reimagining their campus to elevate the community college experience while exploring the creation of two new full-service campuses. Come learn how the new PGCC campus model is meeting short and long-term needs that will serve broader populations, support evolving academic programs and workforce needs, and reduce educational inequities in the college system.

Abstract: The jobs that power our economy are evolving daily and educational facilities must keep ahead of workforce demands in order to stay relevant to the students they serve. This is especially true for community colleges with vocational curricula, which have historically helped to lead communities out of recessions. Come learn how you can modify your educational facilities in response to emerging vocations and work with local laws, grants, and industry partners to build for changing curricula.

Institutional leadership and faculty can help close the workforce capacity gap by making meaningful connections with prospective students, the workforce, and industry partners. Metropolitan Community College (MCC) is changing their pipeline to increase workforce capacity by engaging nontraditional students in addition to re-evaluating academic and physical availability on their campus. In this session, you'll learn how you can enhance awareness of untapped populations to meet industry goals, evaluate opportunities to improve growth outcomes, and grow industry sponsorship investment through academic and equipment planning at your institution.

Abstract: In three presentations, we'll explore sustainable solutions to help you rethink parking and mobility on your campus. Through data-driven decision making, building asset management plans, and internal and external partnerships, planners can effectively tackle issues such as parking structure service life, shortages, cost, growth, and changing demand. Come learn about practical tools and strategies that you can use to impactfully and sustainably improve parking and mobility at your institution.

Abstract: How can a university building, intended for short-term use, be re-purposed to support over-all university planning, embody the culture of a new user, and enhance that user group's pedagogy? Reusing campus structures can be highly effective, but limitations and pre-conceptions can be challenging. We will share the planning behind the transformation of Yale Law School's Baker Hall and demonstrate how deeply engaging the new occupant's culture can powerfully guide building transformation.

Abstract: Campus planners are tasked with creating 21st century learning environments, moving towards carbon neutrality, and repairing buildings that are near the end of their useful lives. Transformative reuse addresses these issues. With creative design and programming, under-utilized campus buildings from all eras can be transformed into sustainable, thriving, innovative learning environments that align with current and future needs. We'll share recent examples of existing buildings that were transformed for new use and discuss the connection between carbon and building reuse.

Abstract: As industry vacates suburbia, universities can leverage vacated office and work buildings into usable, revenue-generating educational facilities. We will discuss how Sacred Heart University acquired the GE world headquarters facility, transforming it to create a modern, nationally branded campus. You will learn what to look for in capital investments, and the opportunities and challenges of converting office space to learning and social environments that will recruit and retain students.

Abstract: We will share how a collaborative partnership between four colleges, two institutions, two architects, and two construction managers delivered a premier facility for Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic, which is home to an interprofessional healthcare education experience that responds to a changing global environment. Learn how to deliver on a singular vision with a large-scale, complex, joint-venture project by using immersive collaborative practices and continuous improvement processes.
