Laurel Hollow is a village located in the Town of Oyster Bay and Nassau County on Long Island. The village was settled in 1653, and incorporated in 1926. Laurel Hollow houses around 600 families, with a population of nearly 2,000 people. Nassau County maintains a system of more than 70 parks, preserves, museums, historic properties, and athletic facilities including the 930-acre Eisenhower Park, with its three public golf courses, Jones Beach State Park and Boardwalk, and the Cradle of Aviation Museum. Nassau County is approximately 17 miles east of New York City and can be reached in under an hour by rail using the Long Island Rail Road, or by taking I-495 E from the city.
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a Vice President, Chief Facilities Officer to provide overall leadership, management, direction, and administration of all facilities operations. Overall responsibilities include strategic planning, capital projects, construction management, management of all physical infrastructure, environmental health and safety, security, emergency response and disaster planning, and compliance with federal, state, and local legislation, codes, and regulatory affairs. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, interact regularly with and provide informed guidance to the Laboratory’s senior scientific and administrative leadership, and develop relationships with relevant local, county, and state‚Äêwide authorities. The role is part of a management leadership team that reports to the Chief Operating Officer, and with significant interaction with the President.
-Lead a diverse staff of 125 employees through 5 direct reports ultimately responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of the Laboratory’s 200 acres of property and 85 buildings comprised of 725,000 SF of buildings on six campuses.
-Oversee the analysis, development, implementation, and monitoring of all facilities budgets, including operations, maintenance, and capital project budgets, ensuring that the department is delivering services in the most cost-effective and transparent way while tracking expenditures in accordance with established Laboratory policies and procedures.
-Foster effective communication and collaboration within the facilities organization while serving as a staff advocate who supports high quality, innovative programs to attract, develop, motivate, and retain a diverse workforce. Maximize flexibility and responsiveness for all operations and services and promote a strong commitment to customer service through the entire facilities area.
-Oversee and manage all construction and expansion projects at the Laboratory, including the negotiation of multimillion dollar contracts on behalf of the Laboratory with external architects, engineering, design, and construction firms.
-Serve as a politically astute, key spokesperson and leader for the Laboratory on physical planning, design, development, construction, and facilities / operations issues. Develop and maintain a positive relationship with officials from the Village of Laurel Hollow and other local and state officials.
-Serve as a principal contact at the Laboratory for matters of regulatory affairs relating to environmental or construction regulations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, health and safety regulations and building codes.
-Oversee the design, development, and implementation of programs for laboratory safety, biosafety, radiation safety, fire protection, environmental monitoring, emergency response, and occupational safety. Develop and update emergency planning for all of the Laboratory campuses and facilities, including, in coordination with IT, a disaster recovery plan.
-Oversee Laboratory-wide security programs and systems.
Provide executive sponsorship for the Laboratory’s facility master plan.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or academic credentials in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field strongly preferred.
10 years’ experience of working in facilities management, preferably in a scientific research environment or related operations experience with ability to supervise and lead a large diverse staff.

management, and effective written and verbal communication skills.
– Must possess very strong project management skills; including the ability to adhere to deadlines and changing schedules, as well as research, develop, and implement projects from start to finish.
– Must demonstrate strong diplomatic skills in order to maintain a positive relationship with the Village of Laurel Hollow and the local neighbors of the Laboratory.
– Must be proficient in project management and building management software.
– Must have a high level of personal integrity, ethics, initiative, emotional intelligence, and strong interpersonal skills.
Must have a solid understanding of computer hardware and software, including Mac, PC, and Microsoft Office Suite.
