The University Engineer – Director FP&CP Engineering serves alongside other members of the Facilities, Planning & Capital Programs (“FP&CP”) team with expert professional vision for strategic, sustainable and efficient university engineering systems on multiple campuses systemwide.
Leads and coordinates activities of the FP&CP engineering department and outside engineering consultants with a high level of professional acumen and technical expertise in support of University wide team success by directing, monitoring and evaluating these professional engineering activities.
Coaches engineering staff to perform at a high level of competence. Ensures that performance metrics relevant to Engineering are met or exceeded. Encourages individual professional growth and team development.
Maintains a deep level of knowledge, technical expertise and understanding of the many campus utility and building engineering systems – in order to support best practices in design and operations for campus level teams, facilities AVC’s, Directors and Managers in Kearney, Omaha, Lincoln (including NCTA in Curtis and IANR across the state).
Professionally guides and partners with FP&CP team members in project delivery providing engineering oversight and analysis for scopes ranging from large scale multiyear multimillion dollar campus and utility plant systems, new major capital building projects, existing building evaluations and other small scale engineering focused construction and renovation projects.
Takes a leadership role in the development, analysis and maintenance of a robust and comprehensive systemwide building assessment program to include support and guidance to campus operations staff across the state and oversite of external consultants and software programs engaged by the university in collection, maintenance and synthesis of data.
Supports campus leadership at UNL with activities related to the NU Corp capital plan in partnership with UNL Utility team leadership. Prepares, reviews and coordinates NU Corp capital plan reporting activities in partnership with UNL staff. Ensures that NU Corp projects are delivered within scope, schedule and budget in partnership with FP&CP project management staff.
Chairs the University Design Guideline Committee. Provides leadership on design guideline waivers, updates and maintenance.
Champions the delivery of long-term sustainable building environments, systems and programs – focusing on but not necessarily limited to – energy and water efficiencies, utility distribution system best practices, renewals, occupant health and wellness in conjunction with other team members in FP&CP and on campus sustainability leadership.
This position will work primarily out of the Lincoln FP&CP office with intermittent daytime travel to Omaha, Kearney, Curtis and other IANR sites around the state.
