Conditions of Employment:
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Department: Communications & Public Affairs
The Office of University Communications and Public Affairs builds public understanding, recognition, and support for California State University, Dominguez Hills by shaping the image and voice of the university through coordinated communication strategies and media relations that position CSUDH has an important urban center for teaching and learning, research, scholarship, creative activity, and service. University Communications and Public Affairs functions as a full-service creative agency for institutional communications; print, web, and electronic publications; marketing, and advertising. Department consists of classroom technical support, instructional design, instructional lab and media support.

Major Job Duties:
Under general direction of the Director, University Communications and Public Affairs, the University Brand Strategist and Graphic Designer plays an integral role in reinforcing the university’s brand and has a significant impact on the success of the university communications overall. This position has primary responsibility for maintaining the university’s image and identity system, by working directly with the AVP of Marketing and Communications and the Director of Communications on brand strategy; designing brand assets; creating and implementing processes and guidelines; and training and advising internal constituents on brand application and compliance.

The position also serves as the university’s senior graphic designer who produces visual communications that are well designed, effectively promote key university initiatives and programs in support of the university’s overall strategic mission. Responsible for the creation of a variety of complex design and graphic projects from concept to production for in-house clients; advising internal CSUDH clients in developing communications programs and materials that meet their communications and marketing needs, while ensuring they adhere to CSUDH style and branding guidelines; assisting other designers on campus with concepts, design, branding, production, printing and quality control; and keeping abreast of new technologies and software in print and electronic design.

Qualifications:
Required Education:
College degree in graphic design, fine arts, or related artistic field.

Preferred Education:
Master of Art or Master of Fine Arts

Required Experience:
A minimum of five years of electronic and print design and graphic production required.
Experience in digital design; brand management and/or art direction preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of:
Communications and graphic design theory, graphics identity principles, and typography; brand development; marketing communications; digital communications; production techniques and processes.

Advanced skills in:
Graphic art, design, and illustration/animation; complex computer graphics software and interactive technologies, including lnDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML, After Effects, Word, PowerPoint and others; file formats and peripheral software (e.g., printing, scanning, film recording); graphics delivery and implementation software; project planning, consulting, and management.

Ability to:
Develop concepts and designs using extensive ingenuity and creativity; contribute to longer-term communications and marketing programs; work collaboratively with designers and non-designers; complete assigned projects in a timely manners and work efficiently under tight deadlines; work autonomously and exercise sound judgment; plan, organize, and manage simultaneous projects.

Salary Range: $4,104 – $7,425 monthly.
