Job Duties

Job Summary

The Lead Architect has primary responsibility for the architectural aspects of Purdue’s Consultants Handbook (specifications and guidelines) which ensure quality and consistency for all new building and renovation projects. Responsible for reviewing all construction documents (drawings and specifications) which relate to architectural design for assurance that they meet all applicable University standards, and state and federal codes. This position has primary responsibility for architectural systems within Purdue’s renovation and repair (R&R) program, which requires the development of facilities condition assessments of architectural systems for Purdue structures. Establish and maintain University architectural standards and specifications and assure that they are compliant with State and Federal codes. This position is the subject matter expert on campus compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Oversee and manage the budget and compliance process for the University regarding accessibility requirements mandated by ADA by understanding the requirements, reviewing the physical accessibility of University structures, advising senior administration of deficiencies and making recommendations for compliance. Serve as a technical resource on architecture and architectural systems for campus master planning activities.

Required Qualifications

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Planning, or a related field
• Six years of architectural, planning, and programming experience
• Must be a registered architect in the state of Indiana, or able to obtain registration within 60 days of date of hire
• Experience with detailing and specifying architectural building systems
• Experience applying ADA requirements within a variety of space types and at varying scales
• Experience with planning principles, strategies, and projects including programming, architectural design, and interior design
• Experience with project management of initiatives in support of the implementation of short and long-term strategic goals within a complex, matrixed organization
• Project management experience should include:
• Coordination, running meetings, developing meeting minutes/notes, multiple forms of communication, ability to synthesize information and data into management briefings, managing project schedules, and meeting leadership expectations for implementation
• Project team leadership
• Proven understanding of architectural design and construction techniques
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and writing
• Computer mastery of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and AutoCAD
• Ability to:
o Support design and technical process for medium and large projects
o Manage multiple projects of varying size and complexity, and ability to modify or adjust priorities
o Develop, implement, and adjust action plans for implementation of priority initiatives
o Leverage available resources to maximize impact on campus
o Think critically, synthesize complex data, draw conclusions, and make strategic recommendations
o Work with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds
o Recognize and evaluate problem situations and recommend corrective action
o Act as a liaison between multiple stakeholders with diverse agendas
Preferred:

• Master’s degree
• Experience working in a higher education context
• LEED Accredited Professional credential
• Computer mastery in InDesign
