This Instructional Designer will be instrumental in assuring that UCLA’s financial end users, faculty, staff and new employees are properly trained.

As a member of the Training Development Team in the Business Transformation Office (“BTO”), the Training Developer is responsible for the design, development, delivery and maintenance of an array of training content and materials created exclusively to support and be in alignment with UCLA’s comprehensive financial system training strategy as we prepare the campus and financial user community for the implementation and deployment of Ascend. The Ascend initiative is an enterprise-wide, cross functional financial system transformation project that will replace UCLA’s legacy business processes and systems onto modern Oracle Cloud technology, a “Software as a Service” (SaaS) platform. This instrumental team role will be responsible for collaborating directly with our implementation partners, the Training Development Lead, the Training Team and the Ascend Organizational Change Management Team to develop all relevant content and materials that support the core strategies and delivery methods that will be used to properly train UCLA’s financial end users, faculty, staff and new employees on Ascend’s Oracle Financial Cloud functionality and technology. The content required for the Ascend training program will include, but is not limited to, materials and collateral for on-demand/online courses, workshops, webinars, instructor-led training, training materials, quick reference guides, open labs, “Learn at Lunch” seminars and other relevant job aids for all current and future state end users of the Ascend financial system.
Experience You will Bring to the Team:
Demonstrated expertise and/or certifications in training and/or content development; sound understanding of related training delivery methodologies and processes.
Ability to develop relevant training content as part of a comprehensive training program to lead a large, R1 campus (affecting thousands of staff, faculty and students) towards the adoption of a new financial management system.
Ability to conduct campus skills and readiness assessments in collaboration with the Training Dept. Lead, implementation training partner and staff; prepare and execute related training materials in conjunction with strategy developed from assessment data.
Advanced knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning; skilled in the efficient use of common instructional authoring tools and resources such as, but not limited to: Articulate Storyline, Canvas and Camtasia.
Demonstrated acumen for and focus on best practice content creation and delivery; demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of instructional design theories and principles in the development of courses across all delivery methods (i.e. instructor-led, web, self- study, job aids, and simulation).
Knowledge and ability to apply principles of usability and accessibility as specified by industry standard or regulation (UAAG, ATAG, WCAG).
Ability to collaborate with project workstream leads and subject matter experts to design, develop, and deliver required course content, ensuring organizational readiness at each project phase.
Ability to conduct detailed analysis of business processes, data entities and system functions to effectively understand, document, create and convey correlative training information and content to end users.
Ability to independently design and author complex and high-quality instructional content; align learning outcomes with course content designs; manage and review all developed instructional materials, user guides, flow charts, online training presentations, and diagrams to ensure accuracy and alignment to project goals and desired outcomes; ability to measure learning outcomes and training surveys to ensure the highest quality of training content.
Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully collaborate with a broad range of personnel from all campus departments, including executive management, functional and technical subject matter experts and other campus end users with varying levels of technical and functional knowledge.
Ability to work independently with self-initiative and minimal daily supervision over long periods of time.
Ability to independently set, manage and be flexible to competing priorities; demonstrated ability to handle sensitive/confidential areas; proven ability to manage large concurrent, complex tasks and project initiatives within current and multi-year timelines.
Verbal and written communication skills to convey information of a technical nature to others effectively and concisely using proper English, grammar and punctuation; ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations to people of all backgrounds, skillsets and levels.
Demonstrated skill and experience to effectively utilize common office productivity software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Outlook, Visio and internet browsers and tools.
Bachelor degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibility in training development roles.
Demonstrated experience in effectively managing, directing and coordinating large scale training content and related deliverables.
Experience developing training for IT products and services.
Experience in higher education.
Basic understanding of financial systems and related business processes.
Knowledge of UCLA and campus community preferred.
