Executive Director of Planning

Kansas State University invites applications for their next Executive Director of Planning. K-State, is the first operation land-grant university in the country that has grown into a Tier 1 research university serving more than 20,000 students, 1,300 faculty members, 2,900 staff members and four campuses.

The executive director will play a significant leadership role in the project planning design and construction operations of the university. He/she will build collaborative relationships providing excellent customer service with executive leadership in planning and constructing facilities in accordance with the University’s strategic plan and the Campus master Plan. The executive director will also work collaboratively providing excellent customer service with the State Office of Facilities and Property Management and external architects, engineers and contractors.

In this role, the executive director will:

Lead campus planning, facilities design and construction at the Manhattan, Salina, and Olathe Campuses, and the research and extension offices across the state.
Provide vision and leadership in the management, supervision, growth and direction of departmental activities within the Division of Facilities.
Serve as the University architect.
Oversee a $46 million, 5-yr capital improvement list (50%+ are research and agriculture-related).
Report to the Associate Vice President of Facilities and Planning.

Required Qualifications

Successful candidates will need to have seven or more years of significant experience in providing leadership in the planning, design and delivery of professional A/E services and management of facilities constructions project delivery. They must be licensed as an architect required (NCARB preferred) with ability to attain Kansas licensure within 6 months of hire.
