Job Duties

The University of Tennessee System invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of Capital Projects. The Executive Director reports to the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (EVP/COO) of the University of Tennessee System. The Executive Director oversees the three primary components of the Office of Capital Projects, which include facilities planning, capital budget, and real property and space administration. In this role, he/she is responsible for oversight of the general management, design and construction of major capital projects across the UT System.

Required Qualifications

Successful candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Architecture, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management or related area. A master’s degree, along with licensure or nationally recognized certification in a related area is strongly preferred. The position requires ten (10) years of related work experience. Work experience may be in the areas of facilities management, business management, engineering, architecture, construction management, planning or a related setting. Supervisory experience and effective leadership skills are also required.

Previous experience in a higher education, government or related setting, with responsibility for facility planning, construction management, and/or capital outlay/capital maintenance budget development and execution are highly desirable. Experience in overseeing projects in a complex multi-campus or multi-site environment, and the ability and willingness to direct and facilitate needed changes in strategic direction and general operations of the unit are also highly desirable. Direct experience in the implementation or use of efficient and effective systems of facilities benchmarking, project management, and space utilization is also highly desirable. Experience working in facilities administration or planning at the System or campus level is also desirable.
