Conditions of Employment:
Possession of a valid Driver’s License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver’s license and reflects driving record.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position..

Position Information:
This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Department: Ceremonies and Events
The Office of University Communications and Public Affairs builds public understanding, recognition, and support for California State University, Dominguez Hills by shaping the image and voice of the university through coordinated communication strategies and media relations that position CSUDH has an important urban center for teaching and learning, research, scholarship, creative activity, and service. University Communications and Public Affairs functions as a full-service creative agency for
institutional communications; print, web, and electronic publications; marketing, and advertising. Department consists of classroom technical support, instructional design, instructional lab and media support.

Major Job Duties:
Under general direction of the Director, Ceremonies and Events, the Events specialist will provide strategic program leadership for large/complex University campus-wide events and activities. The incumbent independently will analyze, develop, and evaluate Key events to include: Capital Campaign activities, Economic Forecast, Founders’ Dinner, Awards Programs, Convocation and Year-Long Cultural Celebrations and other events as appropriate.

Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training

Required Experience:
Administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs, equivalent to three years.

Preferred Experience:
Knowledge and experience in vendor coordination, catering, event programming and budget & expense management.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
– Knowledge of administrative and/or program leadership in a large and/or complex organizational unit with broad impact.
– Knowledge of event registration processes to include, but not limited to: invitation outreach, communicate with guests during RSVP and registration process, RSVP tracking, and utilize event registration and seating software to accurately and efficiently monitor guest attendance

Ability:
– Ability to work collaboratively with the University Advancement department and the Office of the President in planning and coordinating special events including but not limited to fundraising events, community events, cultivation events and events in support of the Office of the President.
– Ability to coordinate details and represent the university on and off-campus as mandated in accordance with the changing needs of the university.
– Ability to plan, implement and evaluate events, programs, and recognition or award logistics;
– Take RSVPs; distribute credentials; develop and order collateral; develop on-budget catering menus; partner with University Police on parking and security; facilitate President event briefings as applicable, and coordinate on-site venue/event/staff.
– Ability to evaluate, implement and oversee digital invitation strategy to expedite invitation and RSVP process.
– Ability to multi-task minded and able to coordinate multiple events simultaneously. – Ability to effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing

Skills:
– Microsoft Office Suite software for developing, producing and maintaining various spreadsheets, databases, correspondence, PeopleSoft for the monitoring of revenues and expenditures related to various events.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: -Graphic Design capabilities is a plus
– Knowledge of the campus financial system

Salary Range for this classification is: $3,897 – $7,051
Placement within the salary range is commensurate with experience
