Job Duties

Reporting to the AVP, Facilities Services, the Director of Construction Development is responsible for the effective and efficient operations of the Facilities Development unit. This unit provides project and construction management services for the planning, design, construction and financial management of major capital, infrastructure renewal and new building construction and infrastructure at York University. There maybe two to four such multi-year projects at any given time with project budgets generally ranging from $10M to $150M. The Director oversees the various internal and external teams (architects, engineers, contractors, project and construction managers, support staff, and other specialty subject matter experts and consultants) to ensure fiscally responsible, timely and successful completion of projects. Collectively these teams are referred to as Construction Services. While the Director works collaboratively with all Facilities Services Executive team members, the Director has synergistic and direct relationships with the Director of Planning & Architectural Design, the Director of Campus & Space Planning, the Director of Energy Management and the Director of Property Management Services to ensure integrated approaches to engineering, architecture, project management, planning, space planning, design standards and effective transition of new buildings, spaces and infrastructure into the existing fabric of the University.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:

A University professional degree in Engineering (Civil Engineering preferred), plus professional registration or equivalent combination of education and directly related professional experience. Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)or similar professional affiliation required. MBA would be preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) designation preferred. Some certification in contract law would be an asset. A Minimum 10 years of progressive experience and leadership in project and construction management at an executive level in a multi-disciplinary environment. Direct experience in managing and successfully delivering large capital projects in the range of $50M – $100M. Experience in a public service institution or academic environment preferred. Experience with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) preferred. Business experience preferred.
