California State University, Dominguez Hills, was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University system. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of over 12,500 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Conditions of Employment:
Possession of a valid Driver’s License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver’s license and reflects driving record.
Employment is contingent upon candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift up in excess of 50 lbs.
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.
Department: University Housing
The department of University Housing Services is responsible for the management of an apartment complex housing up to 712 students. specifically, the departments functions include: facility maintenance, counseling and advising of residents, providing cultural, educational, recreational and social programming, fiscal management; recruitment and marketing, personal management; year-round conference and guest services and the development of publicity.
Major Job Duties:
Under general supervision of the Associate Director, Housing Facilities and the with the collaboration of the Facilities & Conference Manager, the custodian is responsible for the daily cleaning of University Housing Services which includes offices, public areas, meeting rooms, and occasional cleaning of 164 one, two and three bedroom apartments, primarily when vacated by a resident. The Custodian is responsible for cleaning of the apartments during the summer conference season, including the rooms for conference guests’ meetings. This position ensures that the apartments are ready for occupancy throughout the entire summer and the academic year.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of the safe use of cleaning chemicals and proper labeling of supplies. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the duties of the position; follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety, operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies applicable to the position
Knowledge of use of custodial systems such as those used to track work orders and two-way radios for communication;
This position requires full range of motion and a variety of movements necessary to perform strenuous manual labor, including but not limited to lifting and moving moderate sized equipment up to 40 lbs, bending, climbing, reaching, and applying force; work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.
Ability to work individually or as a member of a team in a service oriented environment subject
to frequent changing priorities.
Observe and maintain safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required
Ability to follow all university policies, procedures and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, and information security.
Certification: Valid driver’s license
Experience and Education:
Preferred Education: High School Graduate or GED; equivalent to one to two years of related custodial experience.
Preferred Experience: A basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work is preferred. Experience working in a residential, hospitality, or educational environment.
The salary range for this classification is: $2,600 – $4,074 monthly.
