Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, commonly known as FAMU, is a historically black university located in Tallahassee, Florida, United States, the state capital, and is one of twelve member institutions of the State University System of Florida. The College of Pharmacy has extension campuses in Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa and Crestview, Florida.
The Division of Finance and Administration is pleased to announce the acceptance of applications for an Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration (Associate Vice President for Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety). This position will report directly to the Vice President for Finance and Administration/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for the operational management and strategic direction of Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety Departments, which includes, Facilities, Planning, and Construction (FPC), Plant Operations and Maintenance (POM), Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), Events Management and Business Affairs. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that construction projects, facilities maintenance and facilities services are properly administered to support the mission and vision of the Division of Finance & Administration and the University.
Provides direct assistance in the formulation, development and implementation of strategic initiatives, goals and objectives and University policies and procedures; Develops strategies to achieve organizational goals; Understands the organizations strength and weaknesses; Identifies external threats and opportunities; Adapts strategy to changing conditions; Responsible for overall operational and budgetary activities of Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety Departments; Ensures the formulation and administration of the annual operating budget and capital program budget; and develops and implements cost saving measures.
Confers with managers to plan, communicate, execute and evaluate departmental services and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; Resolves complaints and grievances of staff and customers; Improves processes and procedures to successfully sustain and preserve the University’s physical assets to ensure a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment; Responsible for formulation, development and implementation of a plan to provide Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety support for Facilities occupied by non E&G departments (i.e., Housing, Athletics, Business and Auxiliary Services, DRS, Student Activities, Child Care, etc.); Consults with President’s Executive Staff, Deans, and Directors, as appropriate on matters regarding the delivery of Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety projects and services; Represents the University on administrative matters for the division to include external entities, both public and private; and maintains appropriate relationships with SUS staff and with staff of various local, state and federal agencies.
Informs subordinates of all relevant University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures and provided access to all related documents; Assesses and documents subordinates’ ability to comply with all relevant University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures; Employs measure of accountability for compliance with University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures and conducts and documents performance evaluations in a timely manner for each subordinate in accordance with University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures; Prepares reports, statistical data and presentations for the Vice President for Finance & Administration/CFO in preparation for the Board of Trustees, Board of Governors and other stakeholder and internal meetings; and performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution in appropriate area of specialization related to above description and ten (10) years of experience as a facilities’ manager of significant construction/engineering projects at a medium to large higher education institution or similar environment required.
Or Master of Science degree in engineering, architecture or related field from an accredited institution and seven (7) years’ experience as a facilities’ manager of significant construction/engineering projects at a medium to large higher education institution. Extensive hands on leadership experience five (5) years or more effectively communicating, interacting and training other facilities managers at all levels required
