The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), a major urban research university with an operating budget of over $3.4 billion, is seeking an Associate Director for Campus and Space Planning to manage the campus and space planning work within the Office of Planning, Sustainability and Project Management. Job Duties

Record and analyze space requests from colleges and units. Provide test fit analysis to director and prepare recommendations for senior leadership.
Direct the Annual Space and Capital Plan process and publish the annual plan.
Create and administer policies and standards regarding space allocation and utilization. Analyze and report on space utilization in UIC’s Facility Information Management database.
Oversee the development of preliminary space and furniture layout plans for office and accessory spaces.
Coordinate with PSPM colleagues on conceptual design for new construction and renovation to ensure compliance with the UIC Master Plan.
Manage a GIS unit to prepare GIS maps of grounds, buildings and space.
Interface with the City of Chicago, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, etc. as needed for coordination and grant funding opportunities.
Research advanced topics and develop benchmark studies on campus, facility, and space planning topics. Prepare GIS mapping or CAD studies as needed.
Participate in campus-focused committees regarding grounds, transportation, as well as staff the University’s Space and Capital Plan Committee.
Identify synergies with principles of sustainability and coordinate campus and space planning work with Climate Action Implementation Plan (CAIP) strategies.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior architecture or planning required. Licensed or Masters degree in architecture, interior architecture or certified in planning preferred.
Four years of progressively responsible experience in interior architecture, architecture, or planning required; in campus interior architecture, architecture or university space planning preferred.
Working knowledge of interior architecture and space planning.
Working knowledge of general higher education space planning principles and capital planning preferred.
Proficient in use of CAD and GIS; Adobe Creative Cloud, Powerpoint.
Experience in use of planning and graphics software applications, including GIS, CAD, Microsoft Project, InDesign. Experience with space administration software such as Archibus preferred.
Able to work with data sets and organize into excel and other programs.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, manage projects to meet deadlines.
Ability to analyze data and think critically. Ability to lead and motivate staff.
Excellent communicator, time manager and skilled at graphic presentations. Skilled at communicating complex data through reports and/or dashboards preferred.
