Job Duties

Master Plan Administration:
Substantially participates in Master Plan development, review, implementation, and modification process. Independently develops high-level research on campus use and utilization regarding mobility patterns, building use, research productivity and other subjects to inform the planning process.

Leads/manages the medium-term and long-term campus planning efforts, goals and initiatives, including specific program goals and initiatives in a collaborative and collegial manner, identifying and engaging necessary stakeholders. Develops, reviews, and modifies conceptual planning proposals for review and consideration by departmental and executive leadership.

General Planning / Project Planning:
Leads the identification, development and prioritization of academic, research, administrative, student life, and athletic space needs in coordination with Space Management leadership and staff. Translates and develops options for academic, research and administrative space needs integrating physical needs with fiscal analysis. Interprets strategic planning documents and apply them to proposed initiatives that will evolve and develop over time. Assess the economic, social, environmental, physical, financial and other conditions influencing Clemson’s academic and research space needs.

Lead feasibility studies for development/renovation proposals which establish vision, rationale, programmatic scope, and operational/financial feasibility of projects. Serves as project manager, convenor and resource support coordinating stakeholders, PD&C staff, and consultant teams.

Design Review:
Serves as architectural advisor in the planning and design of the University’s physical environment. Collaborates with external consultants/design teams in the development and design of projects, provides design review, and ensures alignment with the goals and objectives of the Long-range Framework Plan and compliance with University design standards, building code, and sustainable building requirements.

Assists with the procurement of design professionals for capital projects and design studies and assists in negotiation of contracts for professional design services.

Visualization, GIS Support, Reporting:
Assist in the creation of clear and compelling visualizations of development plans and design concepts involving University assets. Authors and presents campus planning documents, reports, presentations, andstudies to campus leadership and stakeholder groups as needed.

Coordinates quality graphic production capacity using software (GIS, AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign, etc.) toachieve and maintain consistent graphic standards in all Planning materials and reports. Works with GIS staffin the development of campus maps analyzing existing conditions and scenario illustrations for future campus developments as needed.

Personnel / Consultant Management:
Assists with the management of Planning staff and operations by hiring and directing personnel, conducting performance reviews, and approving invoices and expenditures. Manages professional staff and interns to provide appropriate support to planning efforts.

Leads the hiring/selection process for a wide range of design and engineering consultants to be retained under Indefinite Quantity Contracts and ensures compliance with State procurement policies.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, urban design, or other related field.

Preferred Requirements:
Master’s Degree in architecture, urban design, or planning.

Work Experience:
10+ years
