University of Nebraska-Lincoln SCUP Event June 2022

Campus Student Community and Well-Being
Creating Space for Students Between Academic and Residential Life

Date TBD
University of Nebraska-Lincoln | 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM

This event has been postponed.

Campus spaces dedicated to community building and wellness are critical to student success, but it can be challenging to provide these spaces in facilities with aging infrastructure, limited funding, and deferred maintenance backlogs. After sitting nearly empty for years, the Neihardt Complex on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) City Campus took on a renewed purpose to address student belonging and wellbeing. This symposium will share UNL’s revisioning process for the Neihardt Complex, the master plan implications that tied the vision and the campus together, and the current programming efforts to repurpose space into a community building and wellness space.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify potential key partnerships and collaborations across your institution for envisioning space reuse and revitalization.
  2. Explain current concepts that you can incorporate into space and master planning processes to address student community building and wellness needs.
  3. Describe a community and wellness building vision that drives master site planning and project development.
  4. Discuss the importance of establishing an inclusive process for programming community and wellness space across a wide range of occupants and potential uses.
