Vision Statement:

As regional chair, I will continue supporting SCUP by leading the efforts of our incredible Mid-Atlantic Council and strong regional volunteer base in service of the four new strategic plan goals, helping SCUP to provide institutions with the resources they need to navigate a particularly fraught period of uncertainty. The disruption affecting higher education is resulting in truly innovative strategic planning initiatives, and SCUP – very much including its regional chairs – has a critical role to play as a “learning-centric organization” in identifying these institutions and sharing their stories with regional and national audiences who could benefit from their lessons learned. I’m struck by the emphasis on “thought leaders and agents of change” in the plan’s vision, as that is a dual role that regional council chairs will need to enthusiastically embrace: “thought leaders,” in that they must work closely with SCUP staff to bring impactful learning opportunities to regional members, and “agents of change” in that each region will need to adapt to new and improved national initiatives, like the introduction of the community chair position. The new SCUP strategic plan is, to me, the perfect opportunity for each region to existing member institutions – and not just their facilities planners! – to ensure that they fully appreciate the value SCUP offers its members. Their help will be invaluable to further extending SCUP’s reach to new non-member institutions.
