Joanna Whitcomb is currently the director of campus planning at Dartmouth College. She is responsible for the implementation and oversight of planning for space, buildings, land use, transportation, and sustainability strategies. Whitcomb works closely with senior administration and colleagues on capital planning and with Hanover on community planning issues. She has been employed at Dartmouth College since 2006. For nearly a decade before joining the college, Whitcomb was a partner with Burnt Rock, Inc. Associates in Community Planning based in Waitsfield, VT. Burnt Rock provided an extensive range of planning services to local governments, state and regional agencies, non-profit organizations, and citizen groups. Throughout her career, Whitcomb’s professional focus has been sustainable development, land use, and resource protection. Whitcomb is certified with the American Institute of Certified Planners, a member of the American Planning Association, and SCUP. She has an MS in resource administration and management from the University of New Hampshire and a BS in physical geography and environmental science from McGill University. Whitcomb currently serves on a number of local and regional boards, and greatly enjoys living and playing in northern New England.
