Vision Statement:

As a former teacher and lifelong learner, I am particularly drawn to SCUP’s strategic plan to “operate as a learning-centric organization.” One of the most memorable sessions I attended was led by Rosa Sheng and her team which incorporated role-playing in small groups. They facilitated a fun and engaging activity that illuminated the complex decision-making process of various stakeholders on a campus project. This allowed me
to connect with my group, understand the perspectives of different stakeholders, and enjoy the experience simultaneously.

Our members and attendees are the curators and creators of spaces that enhance the higher education experience for everyone—students, faculty, staff, administrators, and campus guests. My vision is to embody the learning environments and methodologies we promote in higher education within our sessions.

Continuing with the focus on learning, I recognize the immense value of the research component in SCUP’s strategic plan. Our audience is primarily from higher education, with members hailing from prestigious R1 institutions. I aim to leverage the expertise of our members beyond campus planners and collaborate with researchers, instructors, and instructional designers. Although balancing the involvement of stakeholders on a
campus is crucial, I see abundant untapped resources among the institutions and industries we serve.

These untapped resources can also contribute to another strategic goal: driving the expansion and adoption of integrated planning. True integrated planning involves numerous entities that are not typically represented at our SCUP conferences. By fulfilling our mission to promote the expansion and adoption of integrated planning, we will inherently demonstrate the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and a sense of belonging. By engaging stakeholders from IT, academic affairs, business/finance, and
other campus entities, we can access a more diverse pool of perspectives to genuinely integrate for the benefit of the campus community. Participation and a sense of belonging are crucial for stakeholder buy-in.
