By mandate, Towson University will increase enrollment by as much as 35 percent, or 7,000 students, over the next decade. The Center for the Arts capital project at Towson transformed and expanded a 1970s-era campus building into a modern teaching and learning environment and connected it contextually and physically back to the main academic campus. The case study will give evidence to the tremendous opportunities enrollment growth provides to integrate and align the university's strategic mission and goals with its master plan and proposed investment in capital improvements.

Changes in student demographics and renewed fascination with urban neighborhoods is building new interest in urban campuses. These campuses are exploring new approaches to adding density while improving the public realm, breaking down traditional barriers and turning whole cities and urban districts into "campuses" that enrich the classic educational experience, and enhancing quality of life for surrounding urban residents. This panel presentation will look at how Berklee College of Music in Boston, University of Memphis, and the Ohio State University in Columbus are creating new models of "campus" out of urban cloth.
