Conference Theme

Higher Education Planning in a Time of Change and Challenge

Rapid economic and political changes challenge you as a higher education leader. College and universities are expected to:

  • bring about marked increases in the numbers of baccalaureate degree holders,
  • improve learning outcomes,
  • effect stronger partnerships with our K–12 colleagues,
  • attract and retain top teaching and research talent, and
  • contribute to the economic recovery and to sustainability

Yet, federal stimulus dollars are dropping away, key public funding programs are declining or ending, and students are coming to us with high levels of academic and financial need.

If you are a planner, institutional researcher, facilities professional, resource development leader, or a senior executive leader, this one-day conference in Orlando is packed with important information and tools to help and inspire you. In addition to top notch presentations by regional leaders, you will have an opportunity to explore solutions with others involved in higher education planning.

The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) joins host Valencia College in presenting prominent speakers from leading institutions, including the University of Central Florida, Rollins College, and Valencia College, who will address questions such as:

  • What models of partnership can we use to meet the challenge of providing more students with successful pathways to a baccalaureate? How can we plan to meet this goal?
  • What are the dynamic political and economic changes affecting the US and Florida, and how can planners navigate them?
  • How can the resources of the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Economic Competitiveness help us as we seek to play our role in rebuilding the economy?
  • Why is focusing on our learning mission perhaps the most critical thing we can do to ensure our future as institutions?

Join us as we hear from the leadership of major institutions across the region and learn how they are leading with creativity, energy, and solid answers. At the conclusion of the conference, a session on Sustainable Campuses will include an optional brief tour of two LEED Gold certified
buildings on the Valencia campus, the University Center, and the Special Events Center, where this one-day event will be held.
