Professional Development Assistance Grant Program

Deadline for application submission is
11:59 PM EDT,
Tuesday, September 8, 2009

In this economic climate that is creating challenges for so many colleges and universities, the Society for College and University Planning recognizes that professional development and travel budgets are being reduced or cut at many institutions. We believe that during tough times it is more important than ever to invest in education and to reach out to colleagues to help find solutions. To that end, we are offering a program to provide a limited number of SCUP Professional Development Assistance Grants to help underwrite costs associated with participating in SCUP regional events.

The program will occur in conjunction with the 2009 Southern Regional Conference on October 7–9 in Memphis with grants of up to $500 towards registration or travel expenses. Click here for more information on the 2009 Southern Regional Conference.

Eligibility

Applicants for this grant must be currently employed at public, private, or professional institutions or systems of higher education for at least one year and demonstrate financial need that would otherwise prohibit conference attendance.

Responsibilities of Grant Applicant

Recipients must attend the full program on the date and location specified in the grant application. The grant is nontransferable.

If you are awarded a professional development grant, you will be expected to write about your conference experience. Some examples include:

  1. Write an article for the Southern newsletter,
  2. Generate a blog on a topic of interest to higher education, or
  3. Prepare and present a summary of how you are going to implement something you learned at the conference.

Notification of Selection

Applicants will receive notification of their selection on or before September 11, 2009. The SCUP Executive Committee will have final responsibility for awarding the grants.

Questions that will be asked in your application:

  1. Identify your need for this grant, e.g. registration, travel (include an estimated travel budget if requesting travel assistance). $500 maximum award. Note: We will honor the early-bird conference registration fee when processing the grant awards.
