Assistance Scholarship Program

Participation of institutional members at the SCUP regional conferences and events is a high priority for the SCUP Pacific region. We recognize the financial hardships experienced by institutions of higher education in the current fiscal environment. In order to provide support to members interested in continuing their professional training and development and to promote participation in regional activities, the SCUP Pacific Council has set aside scholarship funds to defray the cost of attending the 2013 conference.

SCUP is offering two scholarships for 2013 program:

• Step I Scholarship - Deadline March 7
• Conference Scholarship - Deadline January 21

Note: Scholarships for Step I cannot be used for the conference and Conference Scholarships cannot be used for Step I. They are separate applications and you must submit for each scholarship. You may apply for both, if applicable.

Step I Scholarships

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Step I Scholarship, applicants must:

• Currently work at (or attend, if a student) a higher education institution (preference given to members)
• Attend both Step I and the SCUP 2013 Pacific Regional Conference

Note: To qualify, you must register and pay for SCUP 2013 Pacific Regional Conference using the printable registration form. Do not register online.

Award

Free registration for Step I.

Application Deadline

March 7, 2013

Conference Scholarship

Award

Up to seven (7) $500 scholarships will be awarded. Preference will be given to SCUP Pacific Region members.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Conference Scholarship, applicants must provide the following:

Required:

• Currently work at (or attend, if a student) a higher education institution (preference given to members)
• Demonstrate financial need (one paragraph self-statement)
• Explain desired benefits from attendance (one paragraph)

Optional: A brief statement of support by the institution, such as a supervisor (one paragraph)

Application Review

The SCUP Pacific Regional Council will review applications and provide recommendations (ranked based on application criteria). Award recipients may elect whether to (1) receive the awards directly or (2) have them paid to their institution/employer, and whether or not to use some of the funds as a waiver of the conference registration fee.

Notification of Selection

Scholarship applicants will be notified of award status by January 28, 2013.
